Tottenham's preparation for the North London derby has taken a massive hit with the news that experienced winger Ivan Perisic has suffered an ACL injury and will most likely be out for the rest of the season.

The experienced Croatian forward is said to have picked up the injury surprisingly during a non-contact training session at the club’s Enfield training base.

This season Perisic has proved to be the ultimate professional even in the face of Antonio Conte losing his job, the former Inter Milan has influenced games including his performance against Sheffield United last weekend that ensured they continued their winning run.

The North London derby is built to be one of the best in recent history with Arsenal looking strong having sustained their form from last season while Spurs are building from scratch under Postecoglou but have shown progress already.

Spurs confirmed the injury to the Croatian with just three days to this season’s first North London derby: “We can confirm that Ivan Perisic has suffered a complex anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee,” a club statement said.

They also confirmed he would most likely have played his last game for the club even though he was going to undergo rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.

The statement added: “The experienced Croatia international sustained the injury in non-contact training and will undergo surgery. Ivan will then commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff and is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season.”

Tottenham are second on the Premier League table, with 13 points, same as Arsenal in third ahead of this weekend’s clash.
