Tottenham have confirmed Ivan Perisic will likely be out for the rest of the season after injuring his knee in a non-contact training session.

Perisic, signed by former manager Antonio Conte, has remained the ultimate professional at the club and has come off the bench to help the team pick up three points, including against Sheffield United on the weekend.

The Croatian’s contract at the club runs out next summer and this injury might mean he has already played his last game for the club.

Tottenham have cover in Alejo Veliz, who was signed from Argentine side Rosario Central.

However, the loss of the experienced Perisic will undoubtedly come as a massive blow as the team prepares for the north London derby.

A club statement read: “We can confirm that Ivan Perisic has suffered a complex anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee.

“The experienced Croatia international sustained the injury in non-contact training and will undergo surgery. Ivan will then commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff and is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season.”

Spurs have had a terrific start to the season where they have won four of their first five games, the best start to the campaign they have had in the last decade.

Manager Ange Postecoglou is expected to be afforded the time to build a team that plays in the ‘Spurs way’ after recent managers who arrived with a proven record failed to deliver.
