Tottenham have appointed Panos Markakis as First Team Nutritionist, LondonWorld understands, as Italian manager Antonio Conte continues to search for ways to improve his squad.

Markakis, a Greek dietician, spent almost four years at Nottingham Forest and was part of the backroom staff which saw Steve Cooper’s side go from the bottom of the Championship to the Premier League last season.

Conte took over as Tottenham’s manager just over a year ago and made headlines by banning ketchup and mayonnaise from the menu at Spurs Lodge when he first took over from Nuno Espirito Santo in 2021.

He has also removed all heavy food and sandwiches from the menu and made sure that players have lunch together, a move that has recently strengthened the squad’s bonds. Some team videos now show players having meals together.

At Tottenham, players are allowed to add salt and pepper to their dishes, but traditional oily food is almost entirely banned from the menu.

This is not new to fans who have followed Antonio Conte’s career, as he employed similar principles when he was the manager at Chelsea and Inter Milan, both of which were hugely successful spells.

On the field, Tottenham will host Chelsea this weekend in the Premier League. Conte is still in Italy, but his assistant Cristian Stellini has a 100% winning record in the absence of his boss, having won three games at Inter Milan and three games as assistant Tottenham manager.

Conte, however, is expected to return to London next week after staying behind following the Champions League defeat to AC Milan.
