Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading the race to sign Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison this summer. The England international is facing an uncertain long-term future at the King Power Stadium amid interest from elsewhere.

According to a report by Football Insider, Antonio Conte’s side hold the ‘advantage’ in the race for the playmaker ahead of the next transfer window. Fellow Premier League sides Manchester City and Newcastle United are also believed to be keen.

Spurs could see Maddison as someone to inject more quality into their ranks ahead of next term. The London club are currently eyeing a Champions League spot and getting there would certainly boost their chances of making big signings in a few months’ time.

Leicester swooped to sign the 26-year-old in 2018 from Norwich City and he has been a key player for them ever since. He has made 190 appearances in all competitions and has chipped in with 54 goals, nine of which have come this season under Brendan Rodgers.

He started out at Coventry City and broke into their first-team as a youngster. The Canaries then snapped him up in 2016 and he spent two years at Carrow Road before his transfer to his current club.

Landing Maddison ahead of rivals like City and Newcastle would be a statement of intent by Spurs. They are in action this weekend against Chelsea on Sunday.
