Jamie Carragher mocks Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou in wake of 3-2 Brighton defeat
Sunday afternoon was a miserable time to be a Tottenham Hotspur supporter when they took on Brighton and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher had no hesitation in rubbing salt into the wounds.
In tongue-in-cheek fashion, Carragher reminded Tottenham and Postecoglou that ‘seven days is a long time in football’ on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, following their demolition job on Manchester United the previous weekend. This was in response to a previous statement he made, in which he implied that Postecoglou could be sacked for Spurs’ defensive frailties.

Hide AdIt was a poor showing from Spurs after such a bright start - they initially picked up a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Brennan Johnson and James Maddison. The Seagulls staged an unlikely comeback in the second half, with Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck all getting their names on the scoresheet as the Lilywhites’ game plan collapsed in front of Postecoglou’s eyes.
Currently, Spurs are sitting ninth in the Premier League table, with ten points from seven games - they are below the likes of Fulham, Aston Villa and Newcastle United. Despite this, they have had no trouble in finding the back of the net - with 14 goals so far, only Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea have higher goal tallies.
In Postecoglou’s post match interview, he said: “It was disappointing and I’m absolutely gutted with that. It's an unacceptable second half - we were nowhere near where we should be. Maybe we got carried away with how we were going.
“We kind of accepted our fate and it's hard to understand as we've not done that while I've been here. We usually fight for everything, and when you don’t you pay a price.
“Maybe things were travelling on too smoothly. Football and life will trip you up if you get too far ahead of yourself and that’s what it looked like in the second half.”
