The James Maddison summer transfer saga has finally come to a close with the England international putting pen to paper on a five-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur on a £40 million move from Leicester City.

The midfielder, who has 43 goals and 34 assists in the Premier League, seemed almost guaranteed to move on from the former Premier League winners after the club was relegated to the Championship on the last day of the campaign.

The 26-year-old comes with real pedigree having proved his talents in the top flight and on the international side and attracted interest from Premier League high-flyers Newcastle United and Manchester United, as well as Spurs.

The Magpies' expected signing of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan seemed to put an end to links with Maddison last week and the London side swooped in to bring in the star to work under Mauricio Pochettino.

While the footballing world was transfixed on his big summer move, the former Foxes man seemed to be keeping his mind away from the negotiations stresses while abroad and with friends.

Just as the transfer rumours hotted up surrounding Maddison's future, the star packed his bag and jumped on a private jet for "a break with family and friends".

In an Instagram post, Maddison cut a relaxed figure on June 20 as he boarded his flight following international duty with England.

A week later the star, who took along a photographer with him on his travels, shared a mini holiday album on social media. The midfielder appeared to have rented a luxury villa in Ibiza with modern interiors, a large pool and gardens with a table tennis table.

Maddison was joined by Leicester City midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on the trip and the two could be seen battling it out in a table tennis match. There was also time to enjoy a glass of wine on a boat as the holiday group set sail off the Spanish coast.

In another photo, the new Spurs man could be seen practicing his keepie-uppies, paddleboarding and partying at Ushuaia.

New Spurs man shows support for grieving Chelsea star

Even between the luxury Ibiza trip and transfer saga going on at home, Maddison kept himself looking at the bigger picture and took time away from the rumours to support a friend-in-need after Chelsea man Ben Chilwell shared some tragic news.

The defender took to Instagram earlier this week to share news that his father had passed away. In a heartfelt post, Chilwell wrote: "The move loving dad, who always put everyone before himself and made everyone smile and laugh.

"I am so glad we got to live my dream together, and especially you seeing me make my debut for England. But more importantly, we shared so many amazing memories away from football which I will remember forever."

Maddison and Chilwell are known to be particularly close friends having spent time together at Leicester City, as well as in the England set-up.

Showing his public support for his friend, Maddison wrote online: "You made him a very proud man. Not just because you became an amazing footballer which was your dream as a boy but because you became an amazing, caring person. Love you mate."
