Tottenham look to have finally found the real Yves Bissouma after a year of battling injuries and inconsistent form under Antonio Conte.

The Malian looks to be benefiting from working with Ange Postecoglou and his fitness has also improved which is hardly a coincidence given the smooth nature of their pre-season.

This season Bissouma has started season way better than he did this time around and his manager admits he is thinking long-term with him and has already made him one of the leaders of the team.

Ange Postecoglou told talkSPORT in an interview where he was asked about the midfielder: “I don’t think I’ve done anything specific with him.

“All the players, it’s about creating an environment. I put the responsibility on them too because you can sometimes, when you’ve had a disappointing season, you can blame the manager in the past or other things, but ultimately I said to all the players that it’s about them now.

“Biss, I was lucky because he was here the first day I arrived. A lot of the boys had played international football but Biss was here from the first day.

“I kind of grabbed him and said to him that the way he was training at the time, the first three or four sessions we mainly had young guys and I said ‘you can be a leader in this group’. I already knew about his ability but the way he was training, I could see he got a lift from that.”

Tottenham bagged Bissouma last season for an initial £25million fee and put pen to paper on a four-year deal so clearly he was one for the long term.

When he’s on song he is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League as evidenced by his success at Brighton and his great start of the season.

Spurs have had a strong start to the season winning three and drawing one of their four games to start the Premier league campaign.
