August 12, 2023 was a sad day for Tottenham Hotspur supporters - it marks the occasion on which Harry Kane, one of their most cherished players in history, finally left the club to join Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich for a fee of £86.4 million.

Spurs fans were given a sliver of hope that their hero may one day return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to a buy-back clause in his contract at Munich. Essentially, should any other English club put forth an offer for Kane that Bayern deems acceptable, Tottenham would be given a chance to match that bid - allowing him to make his return.

Despite this, Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel seems intent on keeping Kane at the club, describing him as ‘world-class’ - it would likely take an astronomical bid for the German giants to even consider allowing the 30-year-old to move elsewhere at this stage.

What did Thomas Tuchel say regarding Harry Kane?

Speaking on Kane’s status at Bayern, Tuchel said in a recent press conference: “We persuaded the captain of England to leave England and I think we can pat ourselves on the back for that for a while. He’s absolutely world-class - talent, ability, aura, personality. When he feels at home here, we’ll see his full potential.”

Have Tottenham improved since Harry Kane left the club?

Despite Spurs losing one of the best players in their rich history, an argument can be made that they have improved in his absence. So far this season, they have won seven, drawn two and lost none - a record that has seen Ange Postecoglou set a new Premier League record for the most points taken from a manager’s first nine games.

They certainly look like a much better outfit than they did last season - but this can be put down to the excellent new signings they have made, such as James Maddison and Destiny Udogie, rather than Kane’s departure.
