Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg admitted with a smile on his face that it felt good to play for the club again after he started his first game of the season in the 2-0 win over Fulham on Monday night.

The 28-year-old has been restricted to just substitute appearances with Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and James excelling for the Lilywhites in their unbeaten start to the season.

Hojbjerg has been linked with moves away in the January transfer window but shrugged off questions about his plans for the future and instead preferred to talk about how he felt about playing again for the club.

He told reporters after the win: “Honestly it felt amazing to play. It was really nice to play. It felt really good. I think first half I thought we played some good football.

“I think we had to score more than the one and second half we lost a bit of intensity. We let Fulham back into it but especially the first half I thought was strong.”

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou was also not happy with the second-half performances and told the cameras his team did not use the ball well in the second half, that assertion was shared by Hojbjerg who admits the manager might have to look into it.

He added: “I think it is up to the coach to analyse now and to show us a bit what we need. personally, I felt the quality of the ball dropped a bit, but again we always know the first game back from the internationals is always a challenge. I thought first half we showed good stuff but I would have liked us to score a bit more.”

Tottenham’s win means they have now gone 9 games into a campaign without a defeat, winning seven and drawing only two, their best start to a season since 1961 but midfielder Hojbjerg doesn’t want to get drawn into talks of being in the title challenge.

He added: “I think it is game by game and it is important to try to improve. Improve every single week and try to see where we can take it. I think you have to live with the pressure, assume the pressure but again it is about improving and looking at yourself week in, week out.”
