Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Josh Onomah is currently available on the market as a free agent after his contract with Preston North End expired earlier this month. The 26-year-old could be lined up for his next move after it has been revealed that he is training with Stoke City.

According to Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, Onomah has been training with the Potters ‘to keep fit’ and there is the possibility of him being offered a contract with the Championship club ahead of the new season. However, Stoke will not have a free route to the Englishman’s signature, as there is interest from other clubs in the division, as well as elsewhere in Europe.

However, the fact that Onomah has agreed to train with Stoke surely puts them in a strong stance to negotiate permanent terms with him. Wherever the midfielder opts to move to will be his third club this year, having left Fulham in January to join Preston on a short-term deal.

Onomah’s career started at Spurs, having made his way through the academy system before receiving his first senior call-up and making his debut in 2015. Despite breaking into some games under former manager Mauricio Pochettino, Onomah struggled to establish himself as a regular in the team and made just 32 senior appearances for the Lilywhites, contributing one goal along the way.

The midfield man was loaned out to Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday during his Spurs tenure, before eventually making the permanent move to Fulham in 2019 as part of the Ryan Sessegnon transfer.

Stoke will certainly know of the experience Onomah has, despite still being relatively young. Having played in both the Premier League and the Championship, he could be a solid addition to the Potters squad, especially on a free transfer as well.
