Conor Gallagher could be on the move this summer with Chelsea’s London rivals showing an interest

Conor Gallagher is seeking a move away from Chelsea this summer amid a £40m offer from West Ham United, according to reports.

The 23-year-old arrived at Chelsea in 2008 at the age of eight but has played just 45 times for the club since his senior debut, spending much of his time out on loan.

All 45 of those appearances came last campaign but the Evening Standard reports he is now seeking a move away from Stamford Bridge after being deemed ‘surplus to requirements’ next season.

He did feature for the Blues in the 4-3 friendly win over Brighton and in the 5-0 victory over League Two Wrexham - scoring in both games.

Fabrizio Romano reports West Ham have made an official offer, worth around £40m, with discussions set to be held with Chelsea. The Evening Standard reportsTottenham Hotspur also want to sign the player.

The Hammers need to strengthen their midfield this summer after agreeing a record transfer for a British player after selling Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105million.

Gallagher has had loan spells with Charlton Athletic, Swansea City, West Brom and Crystal Palace. He has made 99 Premier League appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing six assists.

He predominantly plays in central midfield but has been deployed in more defensive and attacking roles throughout his career.

New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is continuing his preparations for his first season at the club, with the Blues taking on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in their opening game of the 2023-24 Premier League season next month.

The Evening Standard adds the ex-Spurs boss wants to keep Gallagher but the decision to sell the Cobham academy graduate has been made at boardroom level.

A number of midfielders have left Chelsea already this summer with Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount departing while Jorginho made the switch to Arsenal in January.

The Blues are locked in tough discussions with Brighton over a deal for Moisés Caicedo, with the clubs yet to come to an agreement over a fee.
