Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge despite being one of the team’s most consistent performers this term.

The 24-year-old has been a part of the Chelsea set-up since he was eight-years-old and he was promoted into the first team in 2022 after a series of successful loan spells at Championship level with Charlton Athletic and Swansea City before stepping up to the Premier League with West Brom Albion and Crystal Palace.

Gallagher made 35 appearances for the Blues last season, scoring two goals and providing four assists in a year which ultimately proved to be hugely disappointing after numerous big name signings. The England international was heavily linked with a transfer to Tottenham last summer as the club tried to balance the books with Financial Fair Play, but ultimately Mauricio Pochettino opted to keep the player at the club.

This season, Gallagher has been a near ever present in the team, despite the signings of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez last January. Overall, Gallagher has played 32 matches in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing four assists, whilst helping the team reach the Carabao Cup final.

His performances have earned plaudits in what has been another disappointing year for the Blues and the midfielder now faces an uncertain future with his contract due to expire in the summer of 2025.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed that Chelsea are yet to decide on what to do regarding Gallagher and his contract situation. He reportedly wants to be paid in line with the club’s top earners after becoming a regular starter this season, but the club have been wary of rewarding him in such a manner so far.

The Express also reports that Gallagher is keen to remain at Stamford Bridge, although a transfer may be considered if the players agent and the club are unable to reach a solution.

Such news looks to have opened the door to Tottenham, who still have a fair bit of money to spend this summer after the high-profile departure of Harry Kane. Ange Postecoglou’s side are also in position to qualify for European football this season - they are two points behind fourth place Aston Villa with a game in hand, and are 10 points clear of seventh place West Ham.

This could be a huge incentive to Gallagher, who will be desperate to once again compete in Europe’s elite competitions.

Chelsea have continually valued Gallagher upwards of £50m, but could be forced to lower that asking price should he enter the final 12 months of his contract.
