Can Radu Dragusin play against Man Utd? Transfer latest as Tottenham close in on second signing

Tottenham look set to secure a second January transfer after confirmation of Timo Werner's loan on Tuesday.

Tottenham Hotspur have been very busy in the January transfer window and look set for a second major signing of the week with Radu Dragusin on his way to the United Kingdom.

Spurs confirmed the arrival of Timo Werner on Tuesday evening, the 27-year-old signing on loan from RB Leipzig for the rest of the season. Ange Postecoglou's side have an option to make the move permanent for a fee believed to be around £15million.

Postecoglou identified upfront and in defence as key areas to improve this month and the Australian will soon get his wish, with Dragusin set to become a Tottenham player. Spurs travel to Old Trafford to play Manchester United on Sunday and they face a race against time to have both new signings available.

Transfer latest

Dragusin was spotted at Genoa airport on Wednesday morning and is due in the UK later today, following the agreement of a £25.9m fee with the Serie A side. Sky Sports reports that the 21-year-old will undergo a medical later this afternoon, while Djed Spence will head the other way on loan.

Tottenham received a late scare on Tuesday evening with Bayern Munich submitting a slightly higher bid - albeit without offering a player on loan. But after sleeping on the news, Dragusin decided on a move to the Premier League and he will join up with Postecoglou's squad imminently.

Can Dragusin play at United?

Premier League clubs must register any new signings by 12pm on the last working day before a game in order for them to be available for selection. Put simply, Tottenham must have Dragusin fully registered by 12 noon on Friday.

It's worth noting that this can be completed before the usual announcements on social media and the club's website. So if confirmation of Dragusin's arrival comes out after 12pm Friday, it does not automatically rule him out of the United game.

Will Dragusin feature at Old Trafford?

Should Dragusin be registered in time, then it is likely he will be involved in the matchday squad for Sunday's trip to Old Trafford but whether he features or not remains to be seen. Part of the reason for Tottenham signing the Romanian is due to an injury crisis in defence and neither Christian Romero nor Ben Davies will be available this weekend.

Micky van de Ven had been training with the squad last week and he was an unused substitute in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Burnley on Friday. Emerson Royal has been playing at right-sided centre-back in recent weeks and it will be Postecoglou's call whether to stick with the Brazilian or throw Dragusin in at the deep end.
