Bayern Munich have opened talks with Newcastle for the signing of experienced right-back Kieran Trippier, LondonWorld has been told. The Magpies are determined to hold on to their 33-year-old defender and one of the leaders in the dressing room but Trippier could push for a move in the coming days.

German giants Bayern want a right-back and are keen to reunite Trippier with ex-Spurs team-mates Harry Kane and Eric Dier. Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021, admitted they were in the market for a right-back and hinted through description it could be the Newcastle man.

Tuchel told reporters this week: "We are looking for a right-back who is strong in duels. We’ll see if something is possible. Nous Mazraoui is at the Africa Cup, but we have also gotten used to Konrad Laimer at right-back, even though it’s not his best position. If there’s an opportunity on the market, we’ll take it. Otherwise, things will stay this way."

Trippier is now in the final 18 months of his current deal at Newcastle and was recently named the North East Football Writers Player of the Year after helping the Magpies reach the League Cup final last season, their first Cup final in 20 years.

He made 114 appearances for Tottenham and played in the Champions League final in 2019 before moving to Atletico Madrid in Spain where he helped them win the La Liga title before returning to the Premier League with Eddie Howe's side.
