Tottenham midfielder James Maddison could make his return to the field when Spurs take on Manchester City next week in the FA Cup. The England midfielder was spotted when the club's media channel posted a video of players who returned to training on Thursday afternoon.

Maddison had quickly established himself as the creative force of Ange Postecoglou's exciting new project before an ankle injury against Chelsea stopped him in his tracks.

Since then, Spurs have navigated some tough games and have emerged from the chaos of losing players through injuries, suspension and international competitions like the Asian Cup and AFCON with 40 points in the league and reached the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Manager Postecoglou hinted at his return after their 2-2 draw against Manchester United last week. He said: “We’ll see [if he can face City].

“It depends on when he starts training. If he starts training early next week, potentially, but then again you have to see how they train with the first team, and how they feel.

"He and Manor Solomon are the next two that should be fairly close after that, provided there are no setbacks."

The midfielder has further suggested he's progressing well after posting a photo of his boots accompanied by a lot of heart emojis this afternoon to suggest he was close to getting back to the squad. Before his injury, Maddison had scored three goals and provided five assists for the Lilywhites and they were top of the league table.
