Club director aims brutal dig at Tottenham over £26m star sale

A club director has aimed barbs at Tottenham Hotspur following the purchase of a £26 million defender in January.

Tottenham Hotspur signed signed Radu Dragusin for a fee of £26 million on January 11 - but Genoa general manager Andres Blazquez does not believe that he will remain in North London for 'too long'.

He said that Dragusin will 'reach a top five European team' in the future - indicating that he believes Spurs are not up to this standard. Additionally, he seemed to express discontent of his decision to join the Lilywhites, saying it would have been 'better for everyone' had he joined Bayern Munich or Serie A champions Napoli instead.

Dragusin made 19 Serie A appearances during his time at Genoa, scoring a pair of goals. Prior to this, the Romania international played for the likes of Juventus, Sampdoria and Salernitana.

What did Genoa general manager Andres Blazquez say in the interview?

Speaking to GSP, Blazquez said: "I think he won’t stay too long at Spurs. Radu will reach a top five European team. I think Tottenham will not be the final destination of his career. I see him at a top five team in Europe in the future. We quickly realized that he had great potential to grow. He is a very intelligent, professional boy and he is the only one who played all the minutes this season.

"If he didn’t move now, Dragusin would certainly have increased in value and, after participating in Euro 2024, we would have sold him even more expensively. Somewhere at 40 to 50 million euros. We would have gotten more money, and Radu’s contract would have been better. But we respected his desire to play in the Premier League.

"Dragusin is a complete player in all aspects. He chose Tottenham, although at Bayern it was better for everyone. Maybe Napoli was also good. We take into account the player’s desire, because we don’t want them to fail."
