Ange Postecoglou confirms £34m Tottenham star will miss Fulham game in latest blow

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is set to be without one of his key summer signings.

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven had a scan on his hamstring on Tuesday afternoon with the club optimistic that he would be back in training soon. He will however miss this weekend's trip to Craven Cottage in the Premier according to manager Ange Postecoglou.

This is the second major injury the 22-year-old has suffered after missing two months out late last year due to a similar injury picked up against Chelsea on November 6. Against Villa this weekend, he was one of the top performers before pulling out earlier in the second half.

Manager Postecoglou confirmed the £34million summer signing from Wolfsburg was a huge doubt for the London derby this weekend. He told Sky Sports: "We're still getting all the information in.

"Look, he's unlikely for this weekend, we don't think it's anything major. We'll probably get some information at the back end of the week, so [he's] unlikely for Fulham.

“But with the international break hopefully it means he doesn't miss too much after that."

Spurs boosted their chances of securing Champions League football with a 4-0 win over Aston Villa. The Lilywhites are now just two points behind Unai Emery's side with a game against Chelsea in hand.

If they can rediscover their form from the start of the campaign where they swept aside teams, and won eight of their first 10 games, then they will have a great chance of securing that all-important fourth spot and Champions League football.

With just 10 games to go, Spurs still have to play Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool with Postecoglou's side likely to play a major role in deciding who wins this season's league title.
