The Whites blow could come as welcome news for QPR and Millwall as they prepare to face a beleaguered Leeds United defence.

Leeds United have been hit with a serious blow in news that captain Ethan Ampadu has suffered a serious injury, meaning he will miss out of meetings with London sides QPR and Millwall in the coming weeks.

The Whites face the Lions and the R's in back-to-back matches at the start of November, travelling to The Den before hosting Marti Cifuentes' side. Ampadu is not expected to play again until January having picked up a knee issue in last weekend's 3-0 win over Coventry City.

The defender received treatment from the medical team during that match but was unable to run off the knee problem, soon being replaced by Ao Tanaka. Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has now confirmed that the Welshman has damaged his lateral ligament and though he does not need surgery he will not return to training until December.

Ampadu suffers ‘serious knee injury’

Farke said, via the Yorkshire Evening Post: "A few things we have to speak about today. I have to confirm it's a serious knee injury, he has damaged his lateral ligament. The doctors have recommended conservative treatment so he doesn't need surgery.

"It's realistic to speak about 10 weeks before he returns to team training. You would expect him to be back at some point during December and obviously, he needs a bit of team training before he's available back for the games, so we expect him to be just back available at some point in January."

QPR and Millwall face Leeds United in November

It's the latest defensive blow for Leeds United with Max Wober also on the treatment table. The centre-back is also set to miss the Millwall and QPR fixtures.

Farke said: "I can also confirm that Max Wober is set for surgery tomorrow, meniscus repair, we expect him to be out for about six weeks until he's back in training."

Last season, Millwall struggled against Leeds United, losing 2-0 at Elland Road and 3-0 at The Den. It was a tale of different fortunes for QPR, who pulled off an unforgettable 4-0 win over the promotion candidates at Loftus Road in April, but did lose 1-0 at Elland Road last October.
