Millwall caretaker boss David Livermore provided an update on the club's search for a new manager following the dramatic 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at The Den on Saturday afternoon.
The 44-year-old club legend is in the hotseat following the bombshell departure of Neil Harris earlier this month. Livermore helped the side end a three match run of Championship defeats against Rovers and believes he will still be in charge come the trip to Norwich City on Boxing Day.

Hide AdSpeaking at the weekend, Livermore admitted that the club was managing the situation as a 'day-by-day' thing and that he was in conversations with the chairman. He told Southwark News: “I think it is a day-by-day thing.
“If there was a new manager in Monday morning, no issue. Let’s crack on. The conversation I had, unless anything’s changed, I haven’t spoke to the chairman since, but it does look like I’ll be in charge for Thursday against Norwich. But again that could change, I don’t know.
“I’m quite relaxed about it. I’ve been told by the chairman that I will be here beyond this season. My contract runs out at the end of the season, so we’ve had that chat. That will be my next task but I’ve been told by him I’ll be here beyond this season.
“So again, when the new guy comes in, I’m sure he’ll want to bring at least someone with him. I’m really comfortable with that. I think I’m average to good at a number of things, so I think I’m quite flexible. I think I can mould into whatever the next head coach wants me to do.”

It was reported last week that Gary O'Neil had been approached by Millwall following his sacking from Premier League outfit Wolves and former Lions head coach Gary Rowett had also been touted as an option before his appointment at Oxford United.
Alex Neil frontrunner for Millwall job
Now, it is former Sunderland and Stoke City boss Alex Neil who has emerged as a strong frontrunner and the most likely candidate to land the Millwall job. The 43-year-old hasn't been in the dugout since his sacking at Stoke City in December 2023 but does have a wealth of second tier experience having worked at Preston North End and Norwich City in the past too.
The former Preston boss has previously spoke of his desire to get back into management. He said: “I want to get... to be honest, I’d like to try and recreate what I had at Preston for those years - in terms of having a squad I really enjoy, having players that are hungry, want to make their way and want to achieve. You don’t come across it very often, but I was fortunate I managed to walk into the right changing room at the right time. I’d like to try and do that again.”

Millwall have provided little update on the recruitment process since confirming Harris' departure. In an official statement on December 10, Director of Football Steve Gallen, said: “We respect Neil’s decision and he departs with the best wishes of everybody at the club. Since I joined in May, I have enjoyed my time working alongside Neil and I thank him for his efforts during this period.
