Fulham are bracing themselves for a busy transfer deadline day and Marco Silva’s side are in talks with a number of midfielders to replace João Palhinha who is edging closer to a departure from Craven Cottage.

Palhinha was a vital part of the Fulham team which secured a top 10 finish last season and he started 37 games in the heart of midfield.

However, the Portuguese international is edging closer to a move to German champions Bayern Munich where he will link up with Harry Kane and a fee of around £55m has reportedly been agreed between the two parties, according to the Daily Mail.

The move would make Palhinha the second high profile departure from the Fulham team after the loss of top scorer Alexander Mitrovic earlier in the month.

But Fulham are determined to fill the void in the midfield and bolster their team for the remainder of the season. One target, according to the Evening Standard, is Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has failed to start any of his sides opening three league games this season.

The Danish international has played in the Premier League for the last seven years and he has enjoyed successful spells at both Southampton and Tottenham. He offers a wealth of experience and leadership and was a member of the Denmark team which reached the semi-final of Euro 2020.

A potential exit for the midfielder could free up funds for Tottenham to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, who is heavily linked with a departure from Stamford Bridge.

The Cottagers have also made contact with Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, according to Sky Sports. The Scottish international has featured just twice this season, with both appearances coming from the bench.

The Red Devils turned down a bid of £30m from West Ham earlier in the summer, so it is likely that Fulham would need to better that price in the coming hours. Other reports from Sky Sports also claim that Fulham are in the race to hijack Manchester United’s move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

Amrabat starred in the Qatar World Cup as Morocco became the first African side to reach the semi-final of the competition and the midfielder is subject to a £25m offer from Fulham, according to Sky Sports.

The midfielder is desperate to leave Italy, according to Sky Italia and he was reportedly promised that he could leave Fiorentina after the January transfer window.
