Fulham 'rejected' by lethal Bundesliga striker despite 'more money' claims

Marco Silva’s side reportedly tried to sign the Frankfurt star but were knocked back

Fulham were reportedly turned down in their pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush in this summer’s recently concluded transfer window.

According to the sports media outlet Bild, the Cottagers wanted to ‘lure him to England with more money’ but the deal did not go through with the 25-year-old striker supposedly ‘turning down’ a switch to Craven Cottage.

The report also claims this was not the first Premier League offer the Egyptian international turned down either after initially rejecting an opportunity to join Fulham’s rivals Nottingham Forest.

The story suggests that the forward does wish to join the Premier League one day but only wants to join a top club and, as relayed by Bild via Sky Deutschland, the 25-year-old said: “I am happy to continue to be in Frankfurt. I just feel very comfortable here. Actually, it was clear to me the whole time that I wanted to continue playing here. We’re like a family here.”

Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Krosche said of Marmoush that he still believes there is room for the striker to improve his game. “His development is strong”, Krosche noted. “How calmly he scores the goal is an improvement over last year. And he still has a lot of development potential.”

Marmoush scored 17 goals and contributed a further six assists from 41 matches last season. He has already scored one goal and added a further three assists from three clashes in the ongoing campaign, scoring in Frankfurt’s recent 3-1 win over Hoffenheim.

As for Fulham, Silva has added six new stars to their squad this summer, but no new striker. Currently at his disposal for the top position are Rodrigo Muniz, Raul Jimenez and Carlos Vinicius although the latter has been linked with a potential move back to Brazil.

The Craven Cottage side completed their highest ever transfer when they signed Arsenal academy star Emile Smith Rowe for a figure that could rise up to £34m with add-ons. Silva also welcomed fellow Arsenal star Reiss Nelson on a season-long loan on the final day of the transfer window, having also brought in defender Joachim Andersen, centre-back Jorge Cuenca, left-back Ryan Sessegnon and midfielder Sander Berge.

The club have experienced a mixed start to the campaign, with one win, one draw and one defeat from their opening fixtures. Last Saturday saw the side draw 1-1 with newly-promoted side Ipswich Town.
