The Eagles are in the market for a proven goalscorer and have not hidden their intention to sign Arsenal’s Nketiah this summer, after falling just short in the January transfer window.

But Mikel Arteta has told Nketiah and his entourage that he sees him as a key part of his project and the striker, aided by his 10 goals this season, might decide against a move to south of the river.

The door is not entirely closed on Gallagher, however the club can’t afford to build their season around a last-minute decision from Chelsea, so it’s wise to look around for viable options.

Crystal Palace have also had a decent look at Watford’s sensational forward Emmanuel Dennis, who will likely leave the club after their relegation to the Championship.

West Ham United have also had a chat with the Nigeria international’s agent, but it will ultimately come down to who wants him more.

Dennis impressed in a losing cause for Watford, scoring 10 goals in 33 Premier League games.

Patrick Vieira has built credibility with his work at Palace this season, and the development of players like Gallagher, Marc Guehi and Tyrick Mitchell is a strong bargaining chip.

Young players have something to look forward to in south London and the buzz that was created from the remarkable FA Cup run looks to have shot the club back into the limelight.

Dennis is slightly older than Nketiah but he took the Premier League by storm and his double figures in a relegated Watford side.

The Nigerian also has the ability to play through the middle, on the left and right side of attack.
