He adds to the growing list on the injury front that includes Michael Olise, Dean Henderson, Matheus Franca, Jefferson Lerma and Naouirou Ahamada who have all been ruled out.

The Eagles are just coming off an important win at Old Trafford but this is a blow to manager Roy Hodgson who bemoaned his side’s luck before the game against Manchester United in the league.

He told reporters after the defeat to Manchester United in the League Cup game: “This wasn’t a weak team by any stretch of the imagination. We’re not suddenly going to go from the team you saw tonight to a totally different team [on Saturday against United in the Premier League].

“We’re going to have to become a totally different team in terms of how we approach the game.

“Not really,” said Hodgson when asked if he could provide an update on the stopper’s injury. Like all of those muscle injuries, the doctors can tell you which part of the leg the injury has occurred in but they’re not prepared to give you the severity of it.

“That will need a scan. I’m sure we will have to wait for the result of that before we know anything more. We just know he had a very unfortunate end to a game he was looking forward to playing.”

Eze has been the shining light for Palace at a time Michael Olise has been injured and manager Hodgson will now have to find solutions.
