Crystal Palace ‘confident’ of signing defender as winger attracts interest

Crystal Palace are back in action tomorrow against fellow Premier League side Manchester United in a pre-season friendly in Melbourne.

The Eagles are in Australia now after playing Liverpool in Singapore last week.

Patrick Viera is gearing up for his second full campaign in charge of the London club after they finished in a respectable 12th last term.

Youngster a wanted man

Crystal Palace youngster Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is said to be on Oxford United’s radar.

The winger has made two first-team appearances so far in his career and is an England youth international.

Journalist Alan Nixon has reported on his Patreon that Oxford want him as well as MK Dons.

Colwill latest

It has been reported recently that the Eagles are keen on signing Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill.

The left-footed defender, 19, spent last term on loan in the Championship at Huddersfield Town and helped the Terriers reach the play-off final.

The Athletic mention that the Viera’s side are ‘confident’ of landing him but there is competition for his signature.

No Gallagher return

Viera has admitted that it is unlikely that Conor Gallagher will return from Selhurst Park from Chelsea.

The attacking midfielder, who is now an England international, was a hit on loan with the South London outfit in the last campaign.

Palace’s boss has told the Press Association (via London News Online): “At the moment I don’t think there is any chance because he is a Chelsea player. He did fantastically well for us and he is in a pre-season with Chelsea. Honestly we wish him all the best.

“I don’t think there is a way to get him back.”
