With the tempo of the game dropping, Arthur Masuaku’s attempted cross was punched into the net by Chelsea goalkeeper to hand the Hammers all three points on the day.

What both managers said:

A delighted David Moyes praised his side’s show of strength: “ I think Chelsea is a top team and the boys did very well today so I have to say they did an amazing job.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said his side paid the prize for too many mistakes: “We made mistakes and gave easy balls away and if you do that consistently then you will have to pay for it and that is what happened here today.

“We need to care about the details, there is no need to start doubting ourselves and we just have to re-focus and get through this period.”

Thiago Silva- The Brazilian is 37 years and is the best defender at Chelsea but he is also the best fighter they have. His skill set and football knowledge is priceless. Silva is now making a habit of clearing balls off the line.

He scored the opener with a thumping header and within minutes was clearing a ball off the line to preserve the lead he gave his side.

feels like a lifetime ago now when he made an error on his Chelsea debut at West Brom, and many thought he wasn’t going to cut it at this level.

Silva has been a masterful signing and is going from strength to strength in this Chelsea winning team, he was very unlucky to end the game on the losing side today.

Jarrod Bowen- Special game for the former Hull City man, everything positive West Ham did came through him.

His pace and determination was rewarded with a penalty and then he showed his supreme technique to smoothly hit a low shot that beat Mendy and levelled up for his side again.

Every time he was on the ball, it felt like he had the entire Chelsea back-line on edge, every time he was on the ball it glued on him, top performance.

Villains

Kai Havertz -It has not been the best start to the season everyone expected of Kai when he scored the winning goal for Chelsea in the Champions League.

Since then, he’s only managed just two league goals and an assist in 14 league games. Against West Ham he had a good opportunity to put his side in the lead but a feeble header meant Fabianski had the simple duty of collecting the ball. He picked up a knock and had to be replaced.

Edouard Mendy- The Chelsea goalkeeper has had a tremendous year in post for Chelsea but perhaps has been unsettled by the talks of Ballon d’or. He was sloppy and indecisive and looked nervous all game.

He literally let West Ham back into the game after bringing down Bowen in the penalty box.He would normally have saved the second goal also even if that was very well technically connected from Jarrod Bowen.

A difficult evening for the often reliable shot stopper who punched Arthur Masuaku’s cross into his own net to crown off a disappointing afternoon, his worst performance since joining Chelsea by a distance.
