Blackburn defender Ashley Phillips is set to undergo medical at Tottenham as Ange Postecoglou closes in on another signing ahead of his first season at the club.

The defender is scheduled to undergo his medical in the next 24 hours and if everything goes as to plan, he’ll fly out to join the team as they continue their pre-season training in Asia.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou had already hinted the club was looking to bring in a new defender and the arrival of Philips is likely to be the answer to the questions at the back, even though sources say they could still bring another defender before the window shuts.

Phillips broke into the Blackburn first-team last season, making eight Championship appearances and playing 14 times in all competitions.

The young English defender is highly spoken about within the England youth setup and will bring a level of enthusiasm to the Tottenham team at a time they are trying to rebuild massively.

Spurs are interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven as they bid to upgrade their backline.

The Lilywhites played their first pre-season game against West Ham and narrowly lost 3-2 to the Hammers but the signs of improvement were encouraging and the Lilywhites will hope that games in Singapore and Thailand will bring even further improvements and better results.

The future of Harry Kane is also still up in the air with the club hoping they can fend off interest from Bayern Munich.
