Chelsea are now willing to send Romelu Lukaku out on loan after talks between the player and interested clubs broke down this week.

The Blues have been forced to make the striker available on loan as they look to get some of his £325k-a-week wages off the book before the transfer window shuts next week.

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho who worked with Lukaku at Chelsea and Manchester United could make the deal happen with the Portuguese keen on bringing the striker back to Italy.

The 30-year-old has been training with the under-21s at Chelsea’s training base in Surrey and manager Pochettino refused to say if he would welcome back him to the first team in the instance he was unable to secure a move away this summer.

The Chelsea manager said in a press conference ahead of the Luton game: “ At the moment we are relaxed and nothing happened. If something changes we will inform you. If the player and club’s wish is to find a solution, it’s not me, it’s them.

‌“In that case, the player and the club will meet and inform me that things have changed. I’m not going to move until the club or the player wants to talk with me. I am here, I accept the situation that was here when I arrived.

“The future can change things. Life can change. I saw Jurgen Klopp say I’m not going to be in this business when we should pay £100million, and then they offered £100million for Moises Caicedo and he said: ‘Oh, I made a mistake.’

‌“That is the same situation. In football, the dynamic is fast and changes and we need to move on. Today, nothing has changed. If something changes we will adapt to the situation.”

Chelsea finished a lowly 12th in the Premier League last season and the start to this season has been hampered by injuries but Pochettino will be confident his side can get all three points tonight against Luton.
