Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino will hope to have Cole Palmer when they host Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge as they look to record back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time in months.

The Chelsea boss confirmed the signing of the former Manchester City winger as the latest member of his star-studded squad as he looks to get Chelsea back to where they belong following a disappointing first year under new owners.

Pochettino said about the signing of Palmer: “I think it was one of the sporting directors and owners who had the idea to bring him to the squad, he fits the project but he is a good player.

“He comes because he expects to play more and be important here but he has seen Chelsea as a project and he can improve. The quality is there and the potential and he needs to prove and show he is better than his teammates.”

The 21-year-old’s signing coincides with the departure of one of Chelsea’s long-serving players, Callum Hudson-Odoi who is expected to be announced as a new Nottingham Forest player and could be in the squad for the game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues forward was first tipped to be the face of the new Chelsea team but an ankle injury and a subsequent loan move to German side Leverkusen did not work out had him being out and looking in.

Fulham had first looked to sign him as well as south London side Crystal Palace- but it is Steve Cooper’s side who have secured his services as he looks to relaunch his career.

If the English forward is to make the Nottingham Forest team for the game against Chelsea tomorrow, it will be interesting to see the kind of reception he gets at a place he called home for most of his life.
