Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has highlighted Romelu Lukaku’s miss in their Champions League final game against Inter Milan as the reason why he’s a European Champion.

The on-loan Chelsea forward at Inter striker saw his effort from inside the six-yard box crash off the legs of Ederson and deflect away for a corner in the dying stages of the showpiece in Istanbul.

Many after the game said Lukaku should have done better with the effort even though replays showed that Ederson knew very little about the header and Ruben Dias had to react instinctively to push the ball out for a corner kick.

Pep Guardiola who has seen his team lose in the most dramatic of circumstances was questioned about Barcelona’s current state and the multiple Premier League-winning manager said sometimes big things take time.

He is quoted by Marca: “They have won the league and the club knows what they have to do. Xavi and [club director] Mateu Alemany know much better than me what they have to do. I don’t know. I am European champion because a player failed three metres from the goalie.”

Romelu Lukaku’s future at Chelsea is still up in the air with Inter Milan looking to move to other options and not willing to do another deal.

Chelsea are open to selling even though the striker has reportedly turned down the chance to move to Saudi Arabia-opting to stay in Europe.

Lukaku scored a total of 14 goals for the Italian side, 10 in the league, three in the Champions League, and one in the Italian Cup.
