Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has affirmed his desire to continue Chelsea's tradition of being winners ahead of their game against Manchester United tomorrow.

The Argentine manager is attempting to repair a team that finished 12th for the first time in 30 years, failed to qualify for the Champions League and had open heart surgery by shipping out 12 first-team players.

Manchester United, their opponent on Wednesday night- are in a similar position with manager Erik ten Hag revealing that the culture and standards at the club had fallen when he walked through the door, but Pochettino says Chelsea is the opposite and all he has to do is continue the rich tradition.

He told reporters gathered at Chelsea's training base in Cobham: "No, no, no. It’s different. We don’t want to change the culture. We want to build something, a project.

"The culture of Chelsea is about winning. How we are going to change a culture in a club that is about winning? No, no, no. If you ask me here if I want to change the culture here? No. We are here to try to build a project together with the new owners, the sporting director, and the club, altogether.

"It’s a project. It’s not a culture. The culture that is here is about to win and now we need to be at this level. Is it a different project from the past? Of course. It’s different. A different way to approach things? Of course. Because it’s a different view. To be at the same level in the past, but the culture of Chelsea is about to win."

Pochettino's Chelsea side have the worst discipline record in the Premier League, with 47 yellow cards and three red cards. They have a couple of players walking the tightrope in the game against Manchester United but the Chelsea boss hinted the game has gone soft and that has left some of the cards his players have received.

The Chelsea boss added: "Today we were talking in the meeting and we showed the clips of the yellow cards. There are too many because they changed the rules this season. We touch and we put the ball from here to there, and that is a tick that we need to change. We need to be clever.

"You upset the player, you get a yellow card, and then in some action that can happen in the game, you can receive another yellow. We receive too many like this. Or even we were talking about Nicolas Jackson, the yellow card because of complaining to the referee.

"The opponent made a foul and didn’t receive a yellow card. But you complain about “why is that not a yellow card?” And it’s “Oh, yellow card for you”. We receive like this. We need to be clever and improve in this area. We cannot be silly to repeat, repeat, repeat the same mistakes."
