Levi Colwill says Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez is a great player and has a big career ahead of him at Chelsea Football Club.

The former Benfica man finally got the reward his consistent performance deserved as he reacted quickest to head home Benoit Badiashile's ball to hand Chelsea the lead against Brighton.

He was also the man who showed no nerves to restore Chelsea's two-goal lead after Levi Colwill had added a second for the Blues and Facundo Buonanotte had netted to reduce the deficit in between.

Before that, he'd gone 30 Premier League goals without a goal and had only one for his former side Benfica in 17 appearances. The 2022 World Cup winner has been questioned by a section of the Chelsea fan base, but his goals and overall performance was a reminder of why Chelsea broke the bank for him.

Asked what he was like in the dressing room after his first two goals, Colwill praised him for his consistency and class. He told LondonWorld: "I'm so happy for him. He's a great player and he's got a big career ahead of him with Chelsea."

Colwill himself scored his first Premier League goal and ironically it came against Brighton where he spent last season on loan and helping them qualify for Europe for the first time in history.

His instinct was to celebrate his goal and then he remembered he was only in the Chelsea first team because Brighton gave him the chance to play in the Premier League.

"It was a lot of emotions and all that. I headed it, wasn’t sure if the ref gave it and then he did give it – and I ran off to celebrate my first Premier League goal – but then realised it was against my old team," Colwill added.

"So to show them some respect, which I did. The club, the fans, and the manager did a lot for me, and I wouldn’t be here without them and not celebrate, it was the least I could do."

The 3-2 win was only the second time Chelsea had won a home league game in 15 attempts and set them up perfectly for the midweek game against Manchester United on Wednesday night.

Levi Colwill admits they are not getting carried away but matches against opponents like Manchester United are an opportunity to prove what a team they are.

He added: "Yes, definitely. We just keep trying to prove what a good team we can be and are. That’s what we need to keep doing every week and do it to be a better team together. Old Trafford will be just like any other game, we go there to win, play our football and take our chances."
