Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has reminded reporters in France of his speed after arriving at Marseille.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is taking the small positives from his unsuccessful spell with Chelsea.

The 34-year-old forward has bounced around of late, having short stints at both Barcelona and Chelsea, racking up just 29 league appearances between the two clubs. At Chelsea, the former Arsenal star netted just once in 15 Premier League outings, and he failed to impress in what was an all-round disappointing season for the Blues.

Since then, Aubameyang has returned to France for what he hopes will be a fresh start after a difficult couple of years following his Arsenal exit.

But after touching down in France, Aubameyang has taken the opportunity to remind people that he still has it at the age of 34, making a bold claim over his speed record from his time at Chelsea.

“I feel very good. Little anecdote, I held the record for speed at Chelsea last season in training. 36 km/h. So at that level, I think I’m alright,” he told reporters in France.”

He added of his Marseille move: "The Marseille bosses came and were very clear, very direct and honest, and I liked that.

“I am a vindictive person. I don't want to leave Europe until I have said the last word. I know it's not necessarily an easy context because there is a lot of expectation. But on the other hand that's what I like. You have to know how to accept pressure and live with it being a footballer. I think it's what makes us better footballers, better people.”

It’s a little surprising that Aubameyang was the fastest at Chelsea, if we take him at his word, especially given the presence of Raheem Sterling, Mykhaylo Mudryk and many others at Stamford Bridge last season. Regardless, he didn’t do enough to impress at Chelsea, and he arrives back in France with a point to prove.
