Chelsea manager Graham Potter has been boosted with the option of having defender Wesley Fofana back in training ahead of the London derby against West Ham this weekend in the Premier League.

The defender hasn’t kicked a ball since injuring his knee against AC Milan last year which cut short his start to life as a Chelsea player and ruled him out of the World Cup.

In his absence Chelsea have gone and bought Benoit Badiashile even though Fofana will have a lot of opportunities to try and stake a claim in the starting 11.

The defender was brought in after a long transfer tussle with Leicester City who made sure they got £70 million from the new Chelsea owners before releasing him.

Since the sacking of Thomas Tuchel and replacing him with Graham Potter Chelsea have had injuries that have impacted performance with the likes of Reece James, Raheem Sterling and even Ben Chilwell all taking turns to visit the treatment before the turn of the year.

But there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel with Reece James and Ben Chilwell all returning to action against Fulham on Friday night, N’Golo Kante still remains unwell even though he is also making progress.

The return of Fofana to training will be a timely boost to under-fire Blues boss Graham Potter given he faces a pivotal week in the league and the first leg of the Champions League game against Dortmund.
