Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has vowed to get everyone moving in the same direction in his first press conference after signing a short-term deal with the Blues.

Lampard, who has been without a job since leaving Everton in January, has been asked to see out the remaining games of the season, including the all-important Champions League tie against Real Madrid.

The former England midfielder still remains Chelsea’s all-time top scorer with 211 goals from 649 games.

He was also manager under Roman Abramovich between 2019 to 2021 where he helped the club navigate a transfer ban and still qualify for the Champions League.

He returns to Chelsea at a time of turmoil for the Blues but says he’ll do everything possible to turn the tide and give joy to the fans.

Lampard told the press ahead of the game against Wolves this weekend: “I’m delighted to get the opportunity and I want to be thankful for that to the people who decided to give me that opportunity.

“I am confident in myself, I have a good understanding of the squad, of course I have worked with a lot of them before but also the stadium, the training ground, the fans, what Chelsea fans want and I’ll do my utmost in this period coming up to give them what they want with my own hard work.”

One of the reasons Graham Potter failed at the club was because he just never really connected with the fanbase, but the appointment of Lampard is expected to instantly solve the disconnect and improve the atmosphere at home games.
