The Blues are in need of significant improvements this summer, and they have turned to one of the champions’ star men.

Sterling looks set to make the switch to Stamford Bridge with a £45million deal already agreed, while the winger has also agreed personal terms.

As per the BBC, the Blues are now working to finalise the deal, which will be seen as a huge boost for Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea will be looking to put together a title push this season, but they need to improve significantly to bridge the gap to the top two from last season.

Sterling should help them do just that, and according to Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, the Blues are getting England’s best player, or at least based on last summer’s Euros.

“I said this after the group games, I think Raheem Sterling has been England’s best player by a long way,” Carragher told Sky Sports last year.

“There was a lot of talk going into the competition that his position in the team was up for grabs, which I couldn’t understand because he has been outstanding for Gareth Southgate since the World Cup, over a two or three-year period.

“And especially the way Harry Kane is playing, coming deeper for the ball and trying to get on the ball, you have to have people making runs in behind and having pace in behind.

“I think before this tournament started, the two first names on the team sheet, if everyone was fit, would be Harry Kane and Harry Maguire - but now it has to be Raheem Sterling joining those two.

“It’s not just Raheem Sterling in the England team - I think Harry Maguire has had a huge influence since he came back in, Harry Kane is now getting back to what we expect from him in terms of goals and performances.

“But I think Raheem Sterling, at this moment, has it to lose, shall we say.”

Carragher’s Sky Sports teammate Neville agreed with that assessment, believing Sterling was the stand-out man.

“I think Raheem Sterling is getting towards being player of the tournament,” added the Manchester United legend.

“About four or five days ago, I thought it would be Jordan Pickford. Maybe it’s because, at times, I’ve been critical of Pickford during the season but I thought he’d been exceptional in terms of the clean sheets that we’d kept.

“Luke Shaw has been outstanding, Kyle Walker has been absolutely brilliant, Kalvin Phillips has been amazing in central midfield but you’d have to say now with what Sterling did against Denmark, he definitely jumps in front of those if he wasn’t there before.

“He was too good for them. That’s an old-fashioned saying that my dad used to say but Raheem Sterling was just too good for them.”
