Chelsea may do well to pick up on a warning from legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon over Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Blues are being linked with a move for Ronaldo, who looks destined to leave Manchester United this summer.

Reports claim Blues owner Todd Boehly has met with Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, in a bid to pull off a deal.

Thomas Tuchel is likely to get his say, but there is, of course, a huge attraction around signing one of the best players in the world.

And reports claim Chelsea could snap him up for just £14million this summer, with Ronaldo now 37 years of age and having just one year remaining of his United contract.

But it’s not all sunshines and rainbows with Ronaldo, who brings with him a certain selfishness. It’s no secret that the Portuguese superstar is not the biggest team player in football.

That’s not to say signing Ronaldo is always a bad idea, after all, he has led Real Madrid and Manchester United to huge success during his wildly successful career.

But there are other issues to keep in mind, and former Juventus goalkeeper Buffon has explained one of the biggest problems after working with Ronaldo at Juventus.

“Juventus had the chance to win the Champions League the first year he was there, when I was at Paris Saint-Germain,” Buffon told TUDN. “I couldn’t understand what happened.

“When I returned I worked with him for two years and we did well, but I think Juventus lost their team DNA while he was there.

“We reached the 2017 Champions League final because we were a team packed with experience, but above all we were a team. We lost that with Ronaldo.”
