Former Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic says speaking to Olivier Giroud convinced him to join AC Milan this summer.

The USMNT captain began life in Italy with a stunning goal as AC Milan impressively beat Bologna 2-0 with Giroud scoring the other goal.

The 24-year-old spent five seasons at Chelsea where he played 145 times across all competitions, scoring 26 goals, but it became crystal clear he had to seek a new challenge and he reveals it was after talks with an ex-teammate that convinced him to move to Milan.

He told is quoted by Calciomecato: “For me, it was important to talk to Giroud, Tomori, Loftus- Cheek, we have rediscovered our bond and the pleasure of playing together again.”

Milan meekly defended their league title last season but after reaching the semi-final of the Champions League. and bringing in the likes of Ruben Loftus Cheek, Tijjani Reijnders, Yunus Musah, as well as forwards Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze, Pulisic is hoping for great things this season.

“We want to fight to win the Scudetto and all the titles we compete for, continuing to score as many goals as we can. Favourites? It’s a bit early to say," he added.

Chelsea have sold and loaned out 12 first-team players already this summer and only three players from the 11 that started the Champions League win against Manchester City are still at the club, Reece James, Ben Chiwell and Thiago Silva.

The Blues have gambled on youngsters as they look to build a team that takes care of itself financially and remain competitive in the league and Europe.
