Chelsea star Christian Pulisic has all but revealed his relationship with former manager Thomas Tuchel was broken after claiming he was left “dumbfounded” by some of the manager’s decisions.

The American star worked with Tuchel at Dortmund and the appointment of the German manager was expected to benefit his career in south-west London but it ended in disappointment.

Chelsea won the Champions League, Club World Cup and European Super Cup during the 569 days Tuchel was manager of the club - but he paid the ultimate price for a slow start to the campaign.

In his book, My Journey So Far, Christian Pulisic revealed he was let down by being named on the bench in the second leg against Real Madrid despite being one of the best players in the first leg.

He said: “What happened before that game was hugely disappointing for me.

“I had a really good first leg performance and our following match was against Fulham in the league.

“Tuchel told me that he was resting me for the second leg and as a result I didn’t play a single minute in the Fulham game.”

He added: “Then on match day of the second semi, Tuchel tells me he’s changed his mind and he’s going with Kai [Havertz].

“I honestly was dumbfounded and very disappointed.

“I thought that I’d earned a start and, most importantly, he had assured me previously I was going to start.”

Christian Pulisic will get a fresh start under new manager Graham Potter who has been brought in from Brighton and Hove Albion to reset the club culture and get them back playing attractive football.
