Chelsea set for massive boost as Manchester United hit with another injury blow ahead of Premier League clash

Manchester United could be missing one of their key defenders for their visit to Stamford Bridge.

Raphael Varane is a doubt for next week's Premier League game between Chelsea and Manchester United after being forced off at halftime at the GTech Community Stadium. The 2018 World Cup winner started the Brentford game alongside Victor Lindelof but told his manager he could not continue at halftime.

Harry Maguire eventually replaced him as he battled yet another injury concern ahead of a massive Premier League game. He's missed nine in the league already and his latest injury comes at a time when United have been held to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Brentford and needing something from Stamford Bridge.

Varane has suffered foot, leg, ankle, hamstring, muscular and groin injuries since signing for the club but when he's been fit and on form, he's been very good for manager Erik ten Hag's side who are fighting to finish in a Champions League spot for next season.

Chelsea have their own injury issues with Ben Chilwell missing the 2-2 draw against Burnley after picking up a knock while on England duty. Defender Trevoh Chalobah and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez both missed the game on Saturday, adding to long-term absentees Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Lesley Ugochukwu.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have their own European ambitions even though the Argentinian admitted they would need to be better than they were against the Clarets if they were to meet their target this season.

He told LondonWorld after the draw at Stamford Bridge: "I am defending my team. I am describing the situation. If you ask me am I kidding someone? No. We are part of the problems. It's to blame everyone."

Chelsea still also have that FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City to come up at Wembley with a spot in the final at stake.
