Chelsea look increasingly unlikely to complete a deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Blues continue to be linked with a move for the now free agent having expressed an interest during the summer. Since then, Ronaldo has been released by Manchster United by mutual consent after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan. That means the Portuguese superstar is available on a free transfer, albeit his wages will be hugely significant.

For now, Ronaldo is concentrated on Portugal’s World Cup efforts in Qatar, and he is not going to sign for any club until his international duties have concluded. There have been reports he has signed with Saudi Arabian side Al-Nasrr, but it seems those reports are wide of the mark. According to Sky Sports News, Ronaldo hasn’t agree any deal just yet, but they say it is true that the Asian giants have made the best offer to date.

Whether there are any other offers on the table remains to be seen, but it seems Al-Nassr are taking a proactive approach in trying to convince Ronaldo to pen a deal. Though, if he does, he will be walking away from the limelight of European football, something he has treasured throughout his career.

At 37 years of age, he is not the player he once was, but at the World Cup, he is hoping to show possible suitors he still has plenty to offer. Chelsea could be one of those clubs, according to recent reports, but it seems the Blues are not at the front of the queue as things stand.

It will be interesting to see if that changes, but at this stage in Graham Potter’s reign, it would be a surprise to see him add a personality like Ronaldo who clearly has the potential to disrupt the dressing room. Then again, owner Todd Boehly may see things a very different way, especially through his branding and marketing lenses.
