The contracts haven’t been signed just yet, it seems, but Romano says Chelsea are in a commanding position over the transfer, with the final details being worked on.

“In theory, clubs can always hijack deals until it’s signed but at the moment Chelsea are more than leading the race,” Romano has said.

“The fee will be more than €60m, still waiting to understand the final amount.”

Alvarez links

According to The Athletic, the Blues have the midfielder at the top of their midfield shortlist heading into the winter and next summer.

Chelsea are likely to address their midfield situation next summer, and Alvarez continues to be linked.

The Mexican reportedly tried to push through a move to Chelsea in the summer window, but he didn’t get his wish.

The Blues may now revisit the situation at a later date, with Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham also on their shortlist, according to the report.
