Chelsea manager Graham Potter has confirmed that goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is back in the squad for their game against AC Milan.

The Senegal international has missed the team’s last three games due to a knee injury but he has been training at Cobham since last week.

Before the injury Mendy was enduring a tough run in the post and there were concerns that he would lose his spot in the team.

In his absence though, Kepa Arrizabalaga has won over some fans and it will be interesting to see if the Spaniard keeps his spot or whether Mendy gets the nod for the must-win Champions League game.

The Blues boss said when asked about the availability of Edouard Mendy: “Eddie [Mendy] has been training with the team in the last few days and has made good progress.

“He’ll be in the squad.”

The Blues are coming from a massive 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, their first under new manager Graham Potter and are now looking forward to building on that when they face AC Milan on Wednesday night.

Another player who is working his way back to full fitness is midfielder N’Golo Kante who has not played since the 2-2 derby draw against Tottenham.

Potter also confirmed both Kai Havertz and Jorginho have some knock even though there is no immediate danger and there is an expectation that they should all recover to be part of the team on Wednesday.

He added: “Jorgi felt a little bit of discomfort in his abdominal area against Palace but trained today.

“Kai had a feeling as well that N’Golo is training more and more, not fully, but getting closer.

“That’s really positive.”
