Chelsea are reportedly ‘close’ to agreeing a deal to sign RB Leipzig ace Christopher Nkunku.

The Blues appear poised to lure the France international to England next year.

Nkunku apparently has a release clause of €60m (£52.4m) that kicks in next summer (2023).

According to Sky Sports, Graham Potter’s side are thought to be ‘prepared’ to pay more than that to ensure that they get him.

Chelsea target Nkunku is 24-years-old and has been playing regular first-team football for the past six years.

The Paris-born man started his career at PSG and rose up through their academy before making 78 appearances for their first-team, chipping in with 11 goals as a youngster.

He then switched to Leipzig in 2019 for a fee of £11.7million (as per Transfermarkt) and has since become their key man.

Nkunku has played 148 games for the German outfit to date and has scored 55 goals and assisted 48. He has also made eight caps for France.

FIFA have rated him at 86 overall on the new game and he has a potential of 89.

His highest statistic is 91 for pace and he also had an impressive 87 for both ball control and dribbling, 90 for balance, 87 for acceleration and 88 for agility.

Sky Sports’ report suggest there are other ‘interested’ clubs so Chelsea will have to see competition from elsewhere if they are to lure him to Stamford Bridge.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has also reported on the story (see tweet below) and has said the player is ‘ready to accept’ the move.
