Chelsea are working on deals to send some players out on loan as they look to reduce their squad.

Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana has agreed to join Leicester City, LondonWorld has been exclusively told, with the newly-promoted Premier League side now ironing out talks to finalize a loan with an option to buy in the coming days.

Sources close to the player have said there is also interest from Villarreal, but having scored four goals in 15 appearances for relegated Burnley, Fofana is said to be interested in staying in the Premier League and has verbally agreed to move to the King Power Stadium.

Chelsea signed Fofana from Molde for £11 million in January 2023. He had scored 22 goals in 39 games in his final season for the Norwegian club, but he’s barely been trusted with minutes in West London.

The Foxes turned down the chance to extend Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract but still have Jamie Vardy, Patson Daka, and Tom Cannon as their forward options. When Fofana arrives, he’ll have to fight his way through if he’s to earn a starting slot.

Chelsea, however, are having a strong week after agreeing to a stunning £33million deal with Atletico Madrid for the sale of Conor Gallagher who did not want to leave the club but turned down two contract offers from the Blues. The Blues will be smiling to the bank, especially as Gallagher’s sale will count as pure profit when taking into account Premier League Sustainability rules given he is an academy player.

The Blues have also agreed to a loan deal with Sheffield United for breakout youngster Alfie Gilchrist. The 20-year-old signed a new deal last season but was left behind in Cobham to work with the development team as the club contemplated the next step for his development. Now, he’ll be heading to Sheffield.

There has been a lot of criticism of the Chelsea owners, especially after the sale of Mason Mount and Gallagher and the way Trevoh Chalobah has been treated, but the board has remained resolute on their model and continues to focus on young, talented players who could be the next big stars.
