Chelsea 'battle' Aston Villa for £25.9m striker as Tottenham 'want' Crystal Palace defender

All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Chelsea and Tottenham as the new season closes in.

Chelsea and Tottenham are now closing in on the start of the new season, with less than two weeks to go until the big kick off. Chelsea remain in the United States for now as part of an extended pre-season tour, facing Real Madrid on Wednesday, while Spurs are returning home from Asia to take on Bayern Munich again, this time at home.

Both clubs will be working hard to ramp up their pre-season training at this point, while work will continue to get new deals over the line. With that in mind, we have rounded up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Blues and Spurs.

Striker chase

Chelsea are said to be interested in a deal to sign Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier this summer as they look to add competition to their front line. German journalist Florian Plettenberg has tweeted: “Borussia Dortmund, now pushing to sign Maximilian #Beier!

“After new talks he’s their desired replacement for Niclas Füllkrug and the 21 y/o top striker can really imagine to join #BVB with immediate effect. Nuri Sahin wants him. Chelsea, Aston Villa and Juventus still there, but Dortmund with good chances to sign him now. Decision soon. Price: €25-30m.”

Fofana latest

On the outgoings front, David Datro Fofana’s future appears to be uncertain. Fofana is yet to nail down a starting spot at Stamford Bridge, and it doesn’t look as though he will any time soon. A decision is yet to be made, but it looks as though a loan deal is likely for the 21-year-old as he looks to continue his development with regular football.

Fofana, who spent last season on loan with Burnley, has reportedly attracted interest from Leicester City, Villarreal and Stuttgart, this summer, and Fabrizio Romano has named the former as the most likely destination. Chelsea seem so prefer the prospect of Fofana continuing to play English football with a view to him making an impact at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham ‘eye’ Palace defender

Tottenham are said to be interested in a deal to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen ahead of the deadline at the end of this month. Palace are already facing the possibility of losing star defender Marc Guehi, with Newcastle United said to be pushing for a deal.

According to CaughtOffside, Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle are now interested in Anderson, with Palace having paid £17million for the Dane back in 2021. It’s likely Palace would make it very hard for any team to sign Anderson this summer, though, and especially if Guehi is to leave. Palace are under no pressure to sell having already sold Michael Olise for £50million, while Guehi could fetch up to £60million, and there is also interest in Eberechi Eze.
