Chelsea have a number of players withdrawing from their national teams to concentrate on their fitness at the club level.

Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has added to Axel Disasi by withdrawing from his country’s game in the coming days with the Senegalese undergoing surgery in London to correct a troublesome wrist.

Jackson has been Chelsea’s lead striker this season and has two goals to show for it in the league. He signed for Villareal in the summer for a deal in the region of £32million and even though there have been times when his finishing has been questioned, Jackson continues to show signs of being a top man.

Axel Disasi, ever-present in Pochettino’s starting XI this season, was called into the France squad to replace the injured Dayot Upamecano but withdrew himself on Monday night.

The reason for Disasi’s withdrawal is said to be a tear in the quadriceps of the left thigh according to the French FA but again he is also expected to heal in the time that he will be out and be ready for the Arsenal game.

Chelsea will also hope to have captain Reece James fit and ready for the first time since the opening day fixture with the Chelsea captain seating out his one-match ban in the thrashing of Burnley away.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has spoken about the need to build on the new momentum: He said: “We’re going to spend working in the training ground. Of course different mood from the last time, last month. With a victory, it is much better. I think pushing, keep pushing and working hard to try and be better.”
