Chelsea have agreed a deal with Championship side Swansea to loan out impressive young defender Bashir Humphreys for the season.

The centre-back will now join the Swans on loan following a dramatic U-turn from parent club Chelsea after they had looked to loan him to Stoke City instead.

The defender is understood to have agreed a season-long loan move, and is now set to undergo a medical in south Wales, bringing a conclusion to a saga that’s rumbled on for the last couple of weeks.

He was one of the impressive players for the Blues during their pre-season tour of the United States and Swansea had made him their prime summer target before Chelsea turned off the deal over a fee that the Welsh club were just not going to be able to provide.

Swansea manager Michael Duff  had told the press he was hoping to have some new faces before the window shuts. He said. “We will see what happens but we are trying to get some players in before the window shuts.”

It’s understood that new Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino has been impressed by the 20-year-old, who previously wasn’t given a squad number before this apparent U-turn.

Chelsea are clearly keen to keep him on board, although sources in west London have indicated that a loan would be the best for his development in a way it played for the likes of Frank Lampard and even recently Conor Gallagher.
