It is set to be a massive night for Chelsea in Milan on Tuesday when they face the champions of Italy in European Football’s elite competition.

Both the Blues and AC Milan sit on four points after three group stage games and defeat for Graham Potter’ side could see the chance to reach the last 16 taken out of their hands depending on results elsewhere. With RB Salzburg topping the group they could move within a point of guaranteeing their spot with a win while Dinamo Zagreb also have an opportunity to enter the mix if they can get a positive result.

Going into the match in Milan, Chelsea will be without some key players while others are expected to feature. There was a big rotation in the starting XI for Saturday’s 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers but it looks like many of the absentees were simply arrested although it has been confirmed that one key player is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Central defender Wesley Fofana was not named in the match day squad for the Premier League clash with Wolves at Stamford Bridge and could be out for around a month. The former Leicester City man has reportedly been nursing a knee problem for a few weeks now which could keep him out for the rest of October. The Frenchman opened the scoring in the reverse fixture against Milan on October 5 but that was also the match where he sustained the injury that is set to keep him out.

He joins countryman N’Golo Kante who is reportedly making good progress on his return to fitness but is not expected to be back in time for the trip to the San Siro. However, there is good news for the Blues as it appears many other big names who did not feature against Wolves will be available for the Champions League fixture.

Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang dropped to the bench and played no part in the match but Graham Potter confirmed after the win that this was due to both having played a lot of football in recent weeks.
