Richie Wellens’ men overcame Stockport County while Nathan Jones marshalled the Addicks to a military-esque victory over Wycombe Wanderers. The winner of the play-off final will join Birmingham City and Wrexham in the second tier.

With the dramatic semi-finals now over, supporters of Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient will begin to turn attention towards that huge day out at the home of football.

When will Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient contest League One play-off final?

Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient will face off in the League One play-off final on Sunday, May 25. That gives the rivals 10 days to prepare for their third meeting of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Addicks and the O’s have faced off twice in League One this season with Nathan Jones’ men winning both of those matches. Charlton Athletic recorded a 1-0 victory at The Valley in August and followed up with a 2-1 win at Brisbane Road in March. Leyton Orient did get the better of their London rivals in the second round of the Football League Trophy, picking up an impressive 2-0 win away from home in early December.

The League One play-off final at Wembley Stadium happens on the same weekend as the Championship play-off final and the League Two play-off final in a busy few days for the hallowed turf in North West London. Sunderland and Sheffield United face off in the Championship play-off final on Saturday, May 24 with Walsall/Chesterfield and AFC Wimbledon/Notts County locking horns on Monday, May 26.

League One play-off final ticket prices

Wembley Stadium has confirmed that tickets for the League One play-off final will be sold via relevant competing clubs. The ticketing process remains to be confirmed by Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient but those announcements can be expected soon - Sunderland and Sheffield United broke news of their allocation and prices the day after the line up for the Championship play-off final was confirmed.

Eager Addicks and O’s supporters can get an idea of how much they will have to fork out for a trip to Wembley Stadium by looking at prices from last year. Last season Bolton Wanderers received 36,550 tickets for the East End of Wembley Stadium. The club also sold tickets in the North Stand and South Stand. The prices 12 months ago, which may change this term, were as follows:

League One promotion prize money

As per 90min last season, the winner of the League One play offs do not receive any extra payments but that success can be lucrative with the financial injection that comes from playing in the Championship. There’s some debate over the actual sum that gets offered, with plenty discussion over the New Deal with the Premier League, but it is around as follows.

When basic awards are combined with solidarity payments from the Premier League, League One clubs receive around £1.4 million at the start of the season. That figure rises to between £6 million and £7 million for Championship sides, which could represent an immediate £5 million boost for Charlton Athletic or any rival winning promotion. The Athletic breaks those figures down to League One clubs receiving £780,000 in solidarity payments and £950,000 from the EFL central income - which would come to more like £1.7 million. For the Championship sides, it’s £5.19 million in solidarity money and £3.92 million in central income - coming to £9.1 million.

Even if Charlton Athletic, Leyton Orient or rivals were to achieve promotion to the Championship and then come straight back down to League One, they would benefit from a parachute payment too. The clubs relegated from the Championship receive around £3.2 million, which is partly what helped to fund the Birmingham City summer of spending last year.
