It’s a goalless affair as Charlton Athletic return to Wycombe Wanderers in League One play-off action.

Charlton Athletic played out a scrappy 0-0 in the first leg of the League One play off semi-final against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.

Nathan Jones will be pleased to be welcoming the Chairboys to The Valley without a deficit to reverse but will need more quality from his Addicks side to ensure they book a place at Wembley Stadium later this month.

The hosts provided some early trouble for Charlton Athletic but that threat was soon stamped out, with the Addicks too cagey in their attacking play to sneak an advantage ahead of the second leg. Here’s how the Charlton Athletic players rated.

Charlton Athletic player ratings

GK - Will Mannion, 8

Made a good early save from Daniel Udoh and had to be on his toes a few times with the sun glaring down on him. Clean sheet in the bag is a job done for the shot-stopper.

LB - Josh Edwards, 7

The full-back’s biggest influence came from those long throws but some good defensive work too, never afraid to get physical.

CB - Macaulay Gillesphey, 8

A confident showing. Had a couple nice moments of vision to poke the ball forwards in the Wycombe half at times.

CB - Lloyd Jones, 8

Involved in plenty of scraps, determined to let his opposition know he isn’t afraid of a duel. More of the same needed in London next week.

RB - Kayne Ramsay, 6

On the receiving end of a heavy challenge early on but dusted himself down. Could have been a bit more progressive going forwards at times.

CM - Greg Docherty, 5

Not his best outing. A little sloppy in moments and dispossessed by Wycombe players a couple of times in the first half. Better after the break.

CM - Conor Coventry, 6

This was too scrappy affair for Coventry to really get on the ball and dictate play in the centre of the park. Sometimes lacked physicality against the likes of Daniel Udoh.

LW - Tyreece Campbell, 7

Looked dangerous at moments and caused problems for Jack Grimmer. Had plenty of license to roam, popping up through the middle and on the other flank. Ultimately unable to find a killer touch but the brightest spark tonight.

CAM - Luke Berry, 6

Needed to find a bit more electricity tonight to create a few more inspiring Addicks moves but did put a shift in.

Matty Godden goes close with late volley against Wycombe Wanderers

RW - Tennai Watson, 5

Didn’t really get running at the Wycombe back line with the side lacking threat on that flank. That’s a role Jones could look to change for the reverse fixture at The Valley.

ST - Matty Godden, 7

Showed hustle and bustle but often looked frustrated. In fairness, didn’t see much created for him by teammates. When Anderson did put a good ball over his head late on, his volley was struck well and on target.

SUB - Karoy Anderson, 8

Exactly what the game was crying out for. Arrived with the physicality needed to go toe-to-toe with a scrappy Wycombe side and looked to waste no time in getting the ball forward. Hit a lovely ball up to Godden for his best chance of the game. Impressive showing to hush some vocal critics.

SUB - Thierry Small, 7

Looked to get things going straight away in a positive move. Always keen to make something happen in his cameo.
